COSTOLUTO FIORENTINO. An old Italian heirloom variety, a true gem among tomato relics. Costoluto represents the classic type of tomato with a distinct flat-round and heavily ribbed fruit shape, typical of many ancient varieties from central Italy. This particular line originates from Florence — a region renowned for its passion for intense and rich flavors. In open ground, it can reach a height of 1.8-1.9 meters.
The plant is tall and vigorous, requires staking and shaping. It’s a mid-season variety: about 100-115 days from germination to the first harvest. It is known for its consistent and abundant yield, and handles heavy fruit loads with ease. The fruits are large, weighing between 100 and 200 g, strongly flattened and deeply ribbed, with glossy, bright red skin.
The flesh is juicy, meaty, and bright red, with a rich sweet flavor and aroma. When cut, the tomato resembles a flower — a true "tomato-flower," as it’s called in its homeland. Perfect for fresh salads, sauces, tomato paste, and preserves. This variety is not only highly decorative and gastronomically valuable but also extremely productive, making it especially popular with collectors and farmers who grow rare tomatoes.
