PITTMAN VALLEY PLUM. A popular German family heirloom from Pittman Valley. Very productive, strong plants with regular leaves and good disease resistance. Fruits are elongated, about 15 cm. long, low in juice, all flesh with a delightful mild flavor. Very few seeds and great shelf life.
A mid-season, all-around perfect variety: a huge bright red elongated heavy juicy plum, palm-sized. The fruit has no cracks or green shoulders. The minimum weight is 300 grams! No hollowness, very tasty, spicy, sweet, meaty, and highly aromatic! Fruit production continues until frost.
Dense flesh with little gel and seeds, absolutely no hollowness. Very few seeds and excellent storability. Prolonged fruiting until frost. Plant reaches up to 1.9 meters in open ground, with thick stems, clusters of 4–5 fruits, heavily loaded until the cold! The yield did not disappoint — an excellent!
OTHER VARIETIES:
"Plum" tomato varieties usually have an elongated shape and are smaller compared to regular round tomatoes. They have dense flesh and fewer seeds, making them ideal for sauces, pastes, and canning. Tomatoes have an intense flavor and usually feature tender skins.
They are often used for tomato sauces and purees — mainly thanks to their high meatiness and sugar content. Among the pepper-shaped tomato varieties, those with elongated, pepper-like forms stand out. They are widely used in salads, culinary dishes, and preservation. Some popular pepper-shaped tomato varieties include:
-
Roma: Also known as "Roma Plums," frequently used for paste, sauces, and drying.
-
San Marzano: These Italian tomatoes are also a top choice for sauces and pasta.
-
King of the Heart: This variety features large, heart-shaped fruits with great flavor.
-
Yellow Pear: Bright yellow pear-shaped fruits — a great addition to salads.
-
Golden Jubilee: These tomatoes have an orange-golden color and a sweet flavor.
