EMERALD CHERRY. Is a mid-season, tall, and exceptionally productive tomato variety with extended fruiting that lasts until the first frost. In open ground, plants grow over 2 meters tall, requiring support or staking. It tolerates shade well, making it suitable for cultivation even in less sunny locations. The fruits are miniature, weighing around 20-30 grams, but have an impressively rich flavor. The flesh is sweet, with pronounced fruity and spicy notes. The variety has an extraordinary aroma — just cutting one fruit is enough for your hands to retain a pleasant spicy-fruity scent for up to two hours. These tomatoes are so delicious that it's nearly impossible to stop at just one.
Once you're familiar with this variety’s nuances, it will undoubtedly become one of your favorites. Remarkably, Emerald has shown the ability to self-seed. In both 2022 and 2023, vigorous self-sown plants emerged from fruits that had fallen in autumn. They germinated well, quickly caught up with transplanted plants in growth, reached heights of 2.5 meters, and produced a good harvest. Their fruiting was delayed by only 1-2 weeks compared to seedlings. These plants demonstrated excellent drought tolerance and resistance to diseases. Even the lowest leaves remained healthy throughout the season, indicating the variety’s high vitality and resilience.
They're especially tasty when preserved, particularly in sweet tomato juice, which fully reveals their aroma and flavor. The fruits have excellent shelf life. For example, fruits harvested on October 1, 2023, just before the first frosts, stored perfectly until November 25 — provided they were carefully picked without damage and laid in boxes so their dried stems didn’t touch other fruits. One of the few downsides of the variety is its thin skin — fruits can easily crack under pressure, so they require gentle handling. Harvesting a bit earlier than full ripeness may help reduce losses.
