GROSSE DES MARAIS (BIG SWAMP TOMATO). A unique treasure of our collection. This is an old and rare tomato variety originating from the Champagne region, particularly from the area around Reims, France. Historically cultivated in swampy lands, its origin gives the variety a distinctive and colorful character. This tomato is a true heirloom, now on the verge of extinction, and is protected in its native region as part of cultural and agricultural heritage. The plant is indeterminate, tall, vigorous, and well-leafed. In open ground, it grows up to 1.5-1.6 m. It’s a mid-season variety with excellent resistance and high productivity. One of the best varieties that wins you over from the very first season.
The fruits are large, weighing between 250 and 500 g., round or slightly elongated, sometimes resembling a small boat. Longitudinal ribbing is often present, giving the fruit a characteristic look. Color is delicate pink with dense, rich flesh. Despite the firm texture, the tomatoes remain juicy, with a sweet, rich flavor and a strong aroma. Some fruits may have small internal cavities — a typical feature of this variety, which does not affect the taste. The yield is outstanding: plants are heavily loaded with fruit. Fruiting continues until late autumn. A perfect choice for those looking for rare but productive and delicious varieties. This tomato is not only tasty and attractive, but also carries a piece of rural French history.
