SCHIMMEIG CREG (STRIPE STONE). A low-growing, super-productive variety. This incredibly productive dwarf tomato, whose name translates from Celtic as “Striped Stone,” was bred by Tom Wagner in 1983 and remains a favorite among gardeners due to its hardiness and disease resistance. Although the taste of the fruits cannot be described as outstanding or exotic, it is the reliability, ease of cultivation, and stable yield that make this variety truly valuable.
The plant performs equally well in full sun and partial shade, showing steady growth and abundant fruiting even under variable weather conditions. Each cluster produces 5 to 7 fruits weighing 100-120 grams. The fruits have a glossy, bright appearance with beautiful yellow streaks on a red background. The flesh inside is pink, with a classic tomato flavor — juicy, moderately sweet, without exotic sophistication.
This variety is particularly valued for canning: the fruits are firm with a strong skin that never cracks, making them ideal for whole-fruit preservation, juice, and sauce production. “Striped Stone” is a true find for those who appreciate practicality, reliability, and high yield rather than just decorative or exotic flavor.
