TINY TIM. This variety fully meets the stated characteristics and stands out for its ultra-early ripening, lagging behind only the Talisman variety by just 10 days! A wonderful new miniature tomato! The growing period is only 95-100 days. This variety is very easy to cultivate: it is a mini-mini dwarf, with the plant height reaching a maximum of 20-25 cm. Pruning and staking are completely unnecessary, saving gardeners both effort and time.
It produces an early and abundant harvest of dense, round, bright red fruits weighing up to 20 grams. The taste is rich, classic tomato flavor, very pleasant, sweet with a slight tanginess. The skin is firm, allowing the fruits to remain on the plant for a long time without losing quality. It scores top marks for beauty, miniaturization, and yield! It looks like a toy, especially striking when green, orange, and red fruits hang on the plant simultaneously.
Perfect for growing in pots and can be cultivated indoors year-round with sufficient lighting. Despite its compact size, one plant can produce about 2 kg of fruits — a very high yield for such a small tomato. It is a sturdy and unpretentious plant, likely inheriting its resilience from its wild ancestor.
HISTORY OF THE TINY TIM VARIETY:
Tiny Tim was developed for home gardeners in 1945 by the University of New Hampshire’s Horticulture Department. In Bulletin No. 354, “Agricultural Research in New Hampshire,” Tiny Tim was described as “a very small-fruited type suitable for growing in a 5-liter pot.” It was recommended for planting in August for a winter harvest when repotted into rich composted soil.
When grown on a sunny windowsill, it will ripen by Christmas. Of course, you can grow Tiny Tim in spring for a summer crop (as we do). Don’t underestimate this variety for its size and cuteness. Tiny Tim is more than just a decorative plant.
