VINSON WATTS. A medium-tall (about 1 m high), mid-season, large-fruited heirloom variety known for its high yield and stability. Its story began in 1956 in Lee County, Virginia, where local gardeners first noticed its tasty and beautiful fruits. Over the following five decades, breeder Vinson Watts carefully selected plants for key traits — rich flavor, dense sugary texture, and disease resistance. The plants form strong, vigorous, yet tidy bushes with potato-type leaves that easily support heavy fruiting. This variety is remarkably reliable, consistently producing very high yields even in years with unfavorable weather.
Fruits are large, weighing 200-500 g or more, uniform, flat-round, with deep pink color and smooth skin. The flesh is dense, meaty, almost seedless, with pronounced sweetness and a harmonious balance of sugars and acids. In cross-section, the flesh is solid and sugary without tough fibers. It has received numerous awards at tasting competitions for its excellent flavor and aroma. Perfect for fresh consumption, salads, juice and sauce preparation, as well as sandwiches and hot dishes.
