1884 PURPLE, USA. This tomato variety is very similar to the highly popular "1884" tomato: the same wonderful taste, the same size and shape, similar plant characteristics. However, the fruits have a reddish-purple color with dark shoulders. It is a tall, mid-season, high-yielding variety. The fruits are very beautiful, especially when cut open, purple, flat-round in shape, sometimes with small green shoulders.
The weight is up to 500 g, with meaty and, at the same time, juicy, very tasty flesh and a wonderful aroma. A good harvest of beautiful, dark purple-pink fruits with a flat-round shape is guaranteed. The fruits are large beefsteaks, ripening to a rich color, weighing 300-500 g (up to 1 kg), meaty, very tasty, and perfect for salads.
It has increased disease resistance. This variety originates from the "1884" variety. A wonderful old tomato relic, as it is said, was discovered by James Lydon Williamson near Friendly, West Virginia, among a flood heap from the Ohio River in 1884. A personal favorite of Gary Ibsen, it is a priority in his annual tomato plantings.
