AUNT GERTIE'S GOLD. An heirloom variety originating from Virginia, developed by Chuck Wyatt of Maryland. One of the most renowned tomato varieties in the U. S. Strong, vigorous plants with potato-leaf foliage. Bright, large, orange fruits with rich, flavorful flesh. Extremely tender, buttery, aromatic, with a slight tang and juicy texture — they literally melt in your mouth. Classified as indeterminate.

Fruits are large, golden, beefsteak-type, weighing between 300 and 750 grams. Slightly flattened with ribbing near the stem. The largest fruits develop curved shoulders forming a shape resembling a small boat. In open ground, the plant grows up to 1.8 meters tall. The flesh is dense, meaty, with a rich, complex, fruity-sweet flavor and a very concentrated aroma.

The plant exhibits vigorous growth, high energy, and abundant potato-leaf foliage. Performs especially well in the second half of the season. I grew them in a glass greenhouse. The bushes grew strong, there weren’t many fruits, but all of them were large. I liked the unusual taste, it somewhat resembles melon. They were used for making salads and juices. The harvest was average. Overall, the variety is good, I will grow it again.

I was pleased with the large tomatoes and their interesting taste. I grew the tomato in open ground. It required frequent pruning and tying up the bushes because the greenery grew quickly. There were not many fruits, but the size of the tomatoes made up for that. It's an interesting tomato, even with the wide range of modern varieties.

I have a very good impression of this variety. It’s a vigorous, fast-growing indeterminate with huge potato leaves. Grown in a greenhouse in two stems, it reached 2.2 meters before being topped. The yield was average, with no skipped clusters. It’s better to grow it in a single stem. Each cluster had 1–3 fruits, weighing from 200 to 450 grams, with a flat-round shape.

It has the most beautiful flesh color among all yellow-orange varieties I’ve seen — the flesh actually seems to “glow” from within. The fruits have a good balance between flesh and juice. When picked ripe, they can still store for about a week. The plant grew in the third row from the sun, and July was rainy and overcast — yet the flavor was harmonious, pleasant, with a slight tang. A solid 4,5 out of 5. I liked the variety and will definitely plant it again next year — but closer to the sun.
