BIG CHIEF, USA. A mid-season, medium-height, and very high-yielding tomato variety. The bushes are not overly dense, with large leaves that resemble potato foliage. In open ground, the plant reaches a height of up to 1.2 m. Fruit weight ranges from 180 to 350 g. Despite the large leaves, the plants are well-ventilated and not overcrowded, which positively affects fruit development.
The fruits are very dense and meaty. Due to the high skin density, after the first heavy rain combined with hot weather, some fruits developed cracks. However, this issue disappeared over time, and by the end of the season, the fruits not only recovered but became even more attractive: with uniform shape, rich color, and glossy skin.
TASTE AND PRODUCTIVITY
Productivity is at the highest level. The plant consistently produces a large number of fruits regardless of weather conditions. This makes the variety an excellent choice for both home gardeners and farmers. Fruit flavor: rich, fruity, with pronounced sweetness and well-balanced acidity.
In terms of flavor characteristics, the variety confidently scores a full 5 out of 5. Suitable for fresh consumption, salads, and winter preservation. Usage is universal: fresh, for juice, and for paste. The seeds of this variety were originally obtained by us from Belgium.
VARIETY HISTORY
This variety is considered one of the tastiest among dark-colored tomatoes today. And that’s no surprise, since one of its “parents” is the famous Brandywine Sudduth. Bright, juicy fruits grow abundantly on compact, disease-resistant plants. The variety originated from a natural cross in the garden of Ricky "V" in the state of Tennessee. There are two versions — one with potato leaf and one with regular leaf. Both were grown and each was appreciated in its own way.
