BIG CLUMSY. An amateur heirloom eggplant variety that attracts attention with its enormous, unusually shaped fruits. The eggplants are broad, rounded and pear-shaped, with a slightly asymmetrical appearance that inspired the variety’s distinctive name. Fruits typically weigh 500–900 g, while individual specimens can reach up to 1.5 kg under favorable growing conditions and with proper care. This is a mid-season variety, taking approximately 115–125 days from germination to the beginning of harvest. The plants are vigorous, with strong stems, reaching around 70–80 cm in height.
The skin is smooth and glossy, with a rich, dark purple color that is almost black. The flesh is creamy white, firm yet tender, with very few seeds. One of the variety’s main advantages is its lack of pronounced bitterness, giving the fruits a pleasant flavor and making them suitable for a wide range of dishes. With its impressive fruit size and unusual shape, BIG CLUMSY is an interesting addition to an eggplant collection and an excellent choice for gardeners who enjoy growing truly giant vegetables.
