BLACK PINEAPPLE (ANANAS NOIRE), Belgium. This Belgian tomato variety originated from the open pollination of the Pineapple variety with an unknown other tomato variety. The plant is tall-growing, mid-season, produces abundant yields, and fruits for an extended period up to the first frost. It requires sturdy support and careful tying.
The fruits have a brownish hue with green spots, weighing between 200 and 700 grams. They are flat-round in shape, large, meaty, with very striking yellow-green-pink flesh. The flesh is soft, buttery, and juicy. It has an excellent taste with a rich fruity-citrus aroma. Perfect for fresh consumption as well as culinary uses.
VARIETY HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION
The breeder is Pascal Moreau. This variety is a true benchmark of unique tomato flavor. Mid-season, productive, strong plant, about 1.5 m tall in open ground. Clusters contain 3–4 fruits up to 700 g, with no small ones. If more than 3 stems are formed, fruits become smaller.
Fully ripe fruits have very soft flesh. Flattened bicolor fruits, bronze-purple-chocolate at full maturity. Skin is thin and almost weightless. Inside – bright bronze-green flesh with vivid red streaks. Very sweet and juicy, rich spicy-fruity taste! Top marks for beauty and flavor! Highly recommended!
