BROWN FLESH. A mid-season, tall variety bred by Tom Wagner. It originates from a line obtained by crossing several varieties of different shapes and was released in 1985 under the name Brown Derby Mix. The plant is indeterminate, vigorous, requiring staking and pruning. Fruits weigh 60-400 g (more often 100-200 g), formed in clusters of 6-7. Typically 3-4 seed chambers.
The shape varies from round to flat-round, with slight unevenness and wrinkling near the stem. The skin is red-brown, with a dark green zone around the stem. The flesh is pink-burgundy or purple, medium-dense, and juicy. The taste is rich, pleasant, with a slight acidity. There may be a tendency to crack under unfavorable conditions. The variety is valued for its unusual coloration and expressive flavor.
