CHEROKEE ROSE, USA. The plant height in open ground reaches about 1.6 meters. This tomato is a unique variation of the famous Cherokee Purple variety but with unusual traits. It is a late-season, indeterminate variety known for its high yield and good disease resistance. Keep in mind that the variety is not yet fully stabilized: out of 9 planted bushes, one matched the classic “Cherokee Purple”, while the others matched this new description.
All bushes are literally covered with lightly fuzzy fruits — this gives them a velvety surface and makes them feel like peaches to the touch. The color and appearance of the fruits are very unusual and may vary slightly from plant to plant in shape and size. The average fruit weight ranges from 150 to 250 grams. The fruits have an intact skin with no cracks, making them even more attractive for fresh eating.
FLESH AND FLAVOR
The flesh is multi-chambered, meaty, and juicy. The taste is a true highlight of this variety: rich, complex, with a bright sweetness and a delicate tanginess. It is important to note that the level of sweetness depends directly on the amount of sunlight and warmth. The first fruits that ripened in the cool July were not as sweet and aromatic as expected. However, after the weather warmed up, the taste improved significantly and fully developed.
When sliced, the tomatoes look very appetizing and stand out for their pronounced pleasant aroma. We recommend this variety for growers who love unusual and rare tomatoes and appreciate not only great taste but also an original appearance. Considering its ripening time, for colder regions with a short season, greenhouse cultivation is recommended. The seeds of this interesting variety were purchased by us in the USA.
