CRUSHED HEART-2, USA. This tomato variety was developed by American breeder Brad Gates. It is likely that a gardener stabilized a variant with almost no anthocyanin pigmentation. The variety is mid-season, with a prolonged fruiting period, and indeterminate in growth. The plant reaches up to 180 cm in height. The stem is slender and vine-like. It performs well in open ground but shows the best yields in greenhouse conditions.
Each cluster forms 4-6 fruits. The fruit weight ranges from 150 to 300 g. Shape is heart-like. The skin color is vivid: raspberry with orange streaks, or the reverse. Inside, the flesh is pink. The taste is moderately sweet with delicate notes. The aroma is rich and tomato-like, with subtle spicy undertones. The flesh is dense, oily, with thick walls. The juice content is low. This is a versatile variety - great for both fresh salads and preservation.
CULTIVATION GUIDELINES
General steps for growing tomatoes:
- Choosing a site and preparing the soil: Choose a sunny location with 6–8 hours of sunlight per day. Prepare the soil by loosening it to a depth of 25–30 cm and enriching it with organic fertilizer.
- Sowing or transplanting: If starting from seed, sow according to the instructions on the packet or based on your region's climate. If transplanting seedlings, do it after the last frost.
- Plant care: Water regularly, especially during dry periods. Fertilize with mineral or organic fertilizers according to the label. Provide support for the plants, especially for large-fruited varieties.
- Pest and disease control: Check plants regularly for signs of disease or pests. Use appropriate methods, including organic treatments if needed.
- Harvesting: Pick fruits when they reach full ripeness according to the variety's characteristics.
