DAMASCUS STEEL, USA. Author of the variety - Dean Slater, Michigan. Medium-sized, medium-early, productive, compact tomato. The fruits are small but very good. As they ripen, their color changes from green-purple to red-brown-purple. The taste is sweet with a hint of acidity, balanced and rich. A good variety. One of the parents is Purple Dragon, the variety has been stabilized for a long time.

The bush is 1.4 meters tall, strong, but not wide; it can be grown in 3-4 stems. The cluster is simple, with 5-6 fruits in each. Weight: 80 grams, medium-early, with a very beautiful color! At the base, the anthocyanin does not cover in a solid layer, but as large strokes and stripes, which visually resembles the pattern of Damascus steel. The main color is red-orange.

The taste surprised and left a lasting impression: very balanced and rich, bright and delicious, with a fruity note. The flesh is oily and juicy. The acidity is present, but it only emphasizes the flavor effect. A favorite for several years! The bush is tall but not very wide. A magical color! Highest score by all criteria! Highly recommended!

TOMATO PROPERTIES OF DAMASCUS STEEL

Ochre-chocolate tomatoes are an interesting type of tomatoes with a unique color that can resemble the shade of ochre or chocolate. These tomatoes are often called "chocolate" due to their dark and rich color. Here are some characteristics of such tomatoes:

  • Color: Ochre-chocolate tomatoes can vary in shades from soft ochre to a more intense chocolate color. The color may change depending on the variety and the ripeness of the fruits.
  • Taste: The taste of ochre-chocolate tomatoes can be varied, but they usually have a sweeter and richer flavor. These tomatoes may have complex aromas reminiscent of ripe fruits.
  • Use: Ochre-chocolate tomatoes are great for use in fresh salads, snacks, and other dishes, where their unusual color can add an interesting accent. They can also be used for making sauces and culinary experiments.
  • Yield: As with other tomato varieties, the yield depends on growing conditions, plant care, and the specific variety.
  • Growing: Ochre-chocolate tomatoes can be grown in the garden or in pots, following general tomato plant care recommendations. They prefer sunny locations, well-drained soil, and regular watering.

I had very few fruits on it, but otherwise it was decent. I’d rate it 4 out of 5.

I grew it in 2022 in a greenhouse. The taste didn’t impress me, so I didn’t grow it again.

I grew one plant in the greenhouse, it reached 2 meters tall with two stems. Outdoors, it grew to about 1.5 meters. I didn’t pinch any suckers. The outdoor plants were productive, and after the heat, the greenhouse plant started setting fruit better. I’m thinking of planting it outdoors this year. I liked the taste. This year, though, we had an infestation of cutworms both in the greenhouse and outside. I hadn’t had this problem before, so now I need to deal with them. Overall, I liked the flavor.

Hello! I’m growing this dwarf variety this year. I liked the taste and the beautiful color. During the heat, it didn’t set fruit, but afterwards, it went crazy with production. The plant grew to 2 meters tall in the greenhouse - if I hadn’t topped it, it would have been even taller. One plant alone isn’t much (it was given to me as a trial), but if you grow more, there will be enough to preserve and eat. I also want to note that it doesn’t get diseases, no blossom end rot, and doesn’t crack, even though it’s growing at the edge of the greenhouse.

A magnificent tomato - truly beautiful and delicious. The plant is slender, but in my greenhouse it grew quite tall, reaching about 2 meters. It's a cluster-type variety. The flavor is well-balanced, with a hint of tartness and a fruity aftertaste. The tomatoes are small, no more than 50 grams each.

Varietal mix-up: unfortunately, in some cases, the seeds you receive may contain a mix-up — when a different variety is sent instead of the one you ordered. If this happens, please let us know right away. To help us resolve the issue, provide the following details:

  • the name of the variety you ordered and which one you received instead;

  • the approximate date of purchase (month and year);

  • how exactly the variety differs.

Please note: if the mix-up is due to the variety's instability or natural segregation (especially with rare blue or variegated types), we cannot influence that. These are the results of the breeders’ work, and such cases can occur.
