DE BARAO ORANGE. A mid-to-late-season, tall tomato variety characterized by vigorous plants and a long fruiting period. The indeterminate plants usually reach 1.5–2 m in height and therefore require support and tying. The variety can be grown both outdoors and in greenhouses. It tolerates dry conditions well and is known for its cold tolerance and resistance to late blight.
The fruits are oval-plum-shaped, weighing approximately 60–100 g, and develop an attractive orange colour as they ripen. The tomatoes look appealing both on the plants and after harvesting. Their firm skin helps keep the fruits intact, making them less prone to cracking when moisture levels remain stable and allowing them to withstand transportation well.
The fruiting period is long, and under favourable conditions the plants can produce an abundant harvest. Variety descriptions report yields of up to 20 kg per plant, although actual results depend on the weather, care, and growing conditions. The fruits are also suitable for fresh consumption, salads, and decorating vegetable dishes.
For a good harvest, seedlings should be started in advance and transplanted to their permanent growing position only after the danger of spring frosts has passed. The plants need plenty of sunlight, regular watering without sudden fluctuations in moisture, and adequate nutrition, especially during flowering and fruit formation. The variety prefers well-warmed, loose, fertile soil.
