DWARF DEAN’S HALEY’S RAINBOW, USA. A decorative, mid-season, determinate dwarf tomato variety with striking variegated foliage. Bred within the international Dwarf Tomato Project, this variety is ideal for growing in containers, balconies, terraces, or small gardens. In pots, the plant grows to about 1 meter in height.
It features a compact shape, tidy structure, and moderate foliage, making it attractive both as a vegetable crop and an ornamental plant. The variegated leaves have vivid white-green spots, especially noticeable in early growth. The coloration may fade slightly with age, but the plant remains decorative throughout the season.
The plant forms a strong, upright stem. The overall appearance is compact, with good air circulation. Fruits are round-plum shaped with a small tip, weighing 30 to 50 grams. The skin is honey-yellow with a blush on the top, especially prominent on the sun-exposed side.
VARIETY FEATURES:
This variety was developed by Dean Slater and introduced in 2016. It is a descendant of the ‘Haley’s Purple Comet’ bred by Brad Gates. The name reflects the plant’s look - a combination of bright variegated foliage and multicolored fruits resembling a rainbow. Information is still limited, and the variety might still be in the stabilization phase.
The fruit’s skin is smooth and firm, resistant to cracking. The flesh is dense, meaty, and juicy. The flavor is sweet with a hint of tartness, very balanced and rich. These tomatoes are versatile: perfect for fresh eating, salads, baby food, canning, and drying. Productivity is high and consistent, especially in the second half of the season.
Ripening occurs in waves, extending the harvest period. The plant does not require pruning but responds well to being trained with 2–3 stems. Fruits are uniform in size, which is ideal for processing. It is resistant to common diseases, particularly when grown in containers. The fruits store well due to their firm skin and dense flesh.
