DWARF EDITH STONE. A mid-season, very productive variety. Plants are compact, stem-type, reaching about 50 cm in height when grown outdoors. The fruits are almost perfectly round, red with yellow stripes, with pink flesh inside. The taste is sweet, and the fruit weight ranges from 80 to 110 grams. The variety is disease-resistant.
The fruits do not crack even with excessive moisture, have good storage capability, and are easy to transport. They are excellent for canning. Developed as part of the Dwarf Tomato Project, led by Susan Oliverson, who selected it from the Softy family. The parent varieties were German Red Strawberry and Dwarf Stone.
Can be grown in pots and containers of 5-6 liters per plant. According to project participants, the unexpected pollination by bumblebees also played a role in the development of the new variety, as the fruits showed stripes that genetically should not have been present. Thus, bumblebees made a significant contribution!
VARIETY HISTORY:
The new variety was developed by Bill Minky and Craig Le Hule, but the name was chosen by Susan — she named it after her great-great-great-grandmother. The tomato was introduced by Victory Seed Company for the 2021 gardening season. It is a vigorous dwarf plant with wrinkled leaves, producing abundant yields of bright.
Flattened, rounded fruits weighing 250 to 350 grams with an intense flavor. The fruits are even and smooth, mostly flat-round in shape, and attractive. When fully ripe, they turn a rich red color with golden streaks. They are fairly dense, very aromatic, with thick marmalade-like flesh. The fruits have a rich taste and a slightly tart intense aroma.
