DWARF FRED'S TIE DYE, USA. A low-growing, mid-late variety from the “Dwarf Tomato Project.” The fruits are flat-round, pink with green stripes. They are meaty and juicy with excellent flavor and a pleasant aroma. The tomatoes are tasty, attractive, and visually appealing. This variety was created by crossing “Berkeley Tie Dye” and “Dwarf Wild Fred”.
The fruits weigh between 180 and 550 grams, round, slightly flattened, with wavy or smooth shoulders. The fruit coloration is purple with gold and green stripes, resembling a zebra pattern. The flesh is dark purple, with a rich flavor typical of black tomatoes — very intense and well-balanced.
The plant is compact, tree-like in shape with regular, wrinkled leaves, and indeterminate growth. Fruit production is abundant and steady starting from mid-season. To increase yield, it is recommended to train the plant into several stems. It can be grown in a pot, but the fruits will be smaller.
ABOUT THE SERIES
“Gnome” tomatoes are unique varieties characterized by compact bushes and a wide range of fruit shapes and colors. These varieties were developed as part of an international project aimed at producing compact but productive tomatoes. Key features of the series:
-
Compact bushes. Plant height usually ranges from 60 to 120 cm. Determinate or semi-determinate varieties. Bushes have a dense structure and thick stem (standard/stem form). Usually do not require complicated staking or pruning (depends on the variety).
-
Container growing. An excellent choice for balconies, terraces, and small gardens. Grows well in pots of 10-20 liters.
-
Variety of shapes and colors. Colors include red, pink, yellow, orange, green, purple, striped, and bicolor. Shapes range from round, plum-shaped, heart-shaped to ribbed. Sizes vary from tiny to large.
-
High yield. Despite their compact size, they produce abundant harvests. Suitable for gardeners wanting to maximize yield in limited space.
-
Excellent taste. Flavor ranges from sweet to distinctly sweet-and-sour. Many varieties are suitable for fresh eating, canning, and sauce making.
-
Adaptability. Resistant to stresses such as drought, wind, and heat. Grow well in both greenhouses and open ground.
-
Slow growth. Compared to traditional varieties, gnomes grow slower, which eases care and ensures even ripening.
