DWARF ORION BELT. Variety developed by Blane Horton. Mid-season, determinate, highly productive super-variety with ruffled light green leaves. A dwarf plant, 50–60 cm tall, with a thick stem. Each truss contains 4–6 fruits. Plants do not require pruning and are heavily laden with fruit. Suitable for container growing.
Excellent mid-season productivity and good post-harvest storage. Originating from the USA, from the Cherokee Tiger line. Fruits range from oval to elongated plum-shaped. The purple-pink skin is speckled with metallic yellow-green streaks, with more or less dark shoulders. Sweet flavor with a hint of bitterness.
A true dwarf variety with limited growth, compact habit, and very short internodes. Regular, crisp chartreuse-green foliage. Fruits are variegated — red with green and black stripes. Dense, not very juicy, with a rich, intense, sweet and slightly tangy flavor. Keep well after harvest. Ideal for small gardens.
DWARF SERIES
Dwarf tomatoes offer a number of advantages that are highly valued by gardeners, especially when growing space is limited:
- Compact size: These plants are short and have a small root system, making them perfect for container gardening, balconies, or small garden beds.
- Disease resistance: Many dwarf varieties show increased resistance to common tomato diseases, including late blight.
- Ease of care: Their short stature means they require minimal maintenance — they usually don’t need extensive staking or frequent pruning.
- High yield: Despite their small size, these plants can produce an abundant harvest with proper care.
- Weather tolerance: Dwarf tomatoes often cope well with both heat and cooler temperatures.
- Extended fruiting period: Many dwarf varieties produce fruit over an extended season — from mid-summer through to autumn.
