DWARF SARANDIPITY. A modern dwarf tomato variety, first introduced in 2016 as part of the international Dwarf Tomato Project. Its development was the result of collaboration between breeders from Australia and the United States. The original cross was made by Australian breeder Ray South, while the subsequent stabilization of the variety was carried out by renowned American breeder Craig LeHoullier. Craig also gave the variety the name Sarandipity in honor of his daughter Sarah. The variety was introduced to the international market by the American company Victory Seed Company in 2015.
The plant is compact, sturdy and well suited to outdoor cultivation. It usually grows no taller than 80 cm and produces a good number of fruit trusses without requiring mandatory removal of side shoots. Dwarf Sarandipity is notable for its high productivity and long fruiting period, allowing even its compact plant to produce a generous crop throughout the season. Thanks to its small size, the variety is convenient for small gardens, container growing and situations where a productive tomato is desired without tall-growing plants.
The fruits are round, relatively small and weigh up to 120 g, with a highly unusual and decorative appearance. As they ripen, vertical green stripes develop over an orange-red and chocolate-colored background, giving the fruits a bright and distinctive look. When cut open, the flesh has an attractive chocolate-red color with a juicy and tender texture. The flavor is mild, sweet and well balanced, with pleasant fruity notes. Dwarf Sarandipity is excellent for fresh eating, salads, slicing and garnishing dishes, and its unusual appearance makes it particularly appealing to collectors of rare dwarf tomato varieties.
