DWARF VINCE’S HAZE. This variety was created by crossing tomatoes "Dwarf Wild Fred" and "Purple Haze," conducted by Vincent Lavallo. The selection of the variety was carried out by Susan Oliverson, who named it after Vince Lavallo, known as the creator of hazy tomato varieties. Besides her, Craig LeHoullier and Justin Ziglaff participated in the development, and the final seed selection was done by Bill Minky.
An early-ripening tomato. The plant is strong, compact, stocky, and not sprawling, reaching about 1 meter in height when grown outdoors. The leaves resemble those of a potato plant. The fruits have a distinctly flattened shape with pronounced corrugation all over the surface from the stem, resembling a flower. The fruit color is a deep purple with a slight greenish tint at the base, which is a distinguishing feature of the variety.
Each fruit weighs between 270 and 300 grams, they do not crack, are disease-resistant, and do not rot. The yield is above average. The flesh inside is purple, contains many seed chambers, the walls are not dense, juicy. The taste is sweet and sour, very rich, with a slightly spicy aftertaste.
HISTORY OF THE SERIES:
In 2006, the international Dwarf Tomato Project was established. This initiative arose in response to the need to grow tomatoes in limited spaces. The project’s goal is to create varieties with compact sizes and high fruit quality. The main advantages of tomatoes from this series are:
-
Plant compactness: The developed varieties are small-sized, requiring no staking or support, making them ideal for container growing, balconies, and small gardens.
-
High fruit quality: Varieties feature excellent taste and a variety of shapes and colors, including both large-fruited and small-fruited types with different patterns.
-
Ease of care: Compact plants are easier to maintain and less susceptible to diseases, reducing the need for chemical treatments and simplifying cultivation.
-
Climate adaptability: Varieties are bred to be resistant to various climate conditions, allowing them to be grown in different regions.
-
Wide assortment: The project offers a broad selection of varieties, enabling gardeners and farmers to choose tomatoes best suited to their preferences.
-
Contribution to sustainable agriculture: The project focuses on varieties that require minimal resources, promoting sustainable farming practices.
