DWARF YUKON QUEST. An interesting dwarf tomato variety whose history is connected with the international Dwarf Tomato Project and the work of enthusiasts from different countries. The original parent combination was created by Australian breeder Patrina Nuske Small in 2006. The plant was later selected and grown by Australian breeder Richard Allen, who then sent it to Susan Bailey in Alaska, USA. Susan carried out further selection and gave the variety the name Yukon Quest, after the famous sled dog race held between Alaska and Canada.
The variety was officially introduced in 2011. It is a productive, mid-season variety with a compact standard-type plant. The sturdy bush grows to about 70 cm tall, making it well suited to outdoor cultivation and smaller growing spaces. Its compact size also makes it convenient for container growing and small greenhouses. The variety produces a good number of fruits and has a stable, extended harvest period. The fruits are relatively large for a dwarf variety, flattened-round in shape and weighing approximately 150–200 g.
When fully ripe, the fruits develop a beautiful deep pink color. The flesh is dense, juicy and pink-raspberry in color, with a pleasant texture. The flavor is sweet, rich and very enjoyable, making the fruits excellent for fresh eating. They are also well suited to salads, homemade tomato juice, sauces and other culinary preparations. Dwarf Yukon Quest combines a compact plant with large pink fruits, good productivity and excellent flavor.
