GILDO PIETROBONI. This unique tomato variety originates from sunny Italy, where it was cultivated for generations. In the 1950s, Gildo Pietroboni, an Italian immigrant, brought the seeds to the United States, preserving the variety as part of his family's tradition. Years later, his son shared these rare seeds with tomato enthusiasts in Pennsylvania — and so began the journey of this tomato's popularity outside Italy.
The fruits vary in shape — from the classic oxheart to a more rounded, slightly flattened form. Regardless of shape, they all boast exceptional qualities:
-
weight between 400 and 700 grams,
-
vibrant, rich red color,
-
dense, meaty yet juicy flesh,
-
a small number of seeds,
-
and an ideally balanced, sweet flavor, rated 5 out of 5 by tomato lovers.
This variety is an excellent choice for those who appreciate traditional Italian flavor, combined with high productivity and beautiful fruit appearance. Perfect for fresh consumption, as well as for making sauces, pasta, juice, and preserves. A true gem for collectors and gourmets — this tomato is more than just a vegetable, it's a living piece of history, passing down authentic taste through generations.
