GLOIRE DE WILRYJK (ROEM DE WILRYJK). An old, rare Belgian tomato variety originating from the Wilrijk district in Antwerp. A true heirloom, tested over decades. This is a mid-to-late season, tall-growing variety known for its high productivity and consistent yield even under changing weather conditions. The plants are strong, vigorous, with dense foliage.
They grow up to 1.5 meters tall in open ground and up to 1.7–1.8 meters in greenhouses. They require staking and pruning. The fruits are round-flat, slightly ribbed, firm, and weigh between 200 and 400 grams. The skin is dark pink and resistant to cracking. The flesh is meaty, juicy, with a smooth texture and a rich, well-balanced flavor.
The taste is not overly sweet or acidic — it is perfectly balanced, with a subtle and pleasant aroma. Ideal sugar-to-acid ratio. A versatile tomato suitable for fresh eating, sauces, salads, and juice. A great choice for lovers of old European varieties with a rich heritage.
