GOGOSHA, Ukraine-USA. A tomato variety originating from the Ternopil region of Ukraine. It is a family heirloom of Tanya Gogosha, whose grandmother brought the seeds to the United States, where the variety gained further distribution. It is one of the 100 varieties featured in Carolyn Homme’s renowned book "100 Heirloom Tomatoes for the American Garden," underscoring its value and recognition among collectors. This variety is of interest to lovers of rare Ukrainian heirlooms as well as American tomato enthusiasts.
This is a mid-to-late-season indeterminate variety with characteristic potato-leaf foliage. It is known for its excellent productivity — easily rated 5 out of 5. The plants are vigorous, reaching up to 1.5 meters in height, and require staking and pruning. The fruits may not look particularly attractive — somewhat dull with a simple round-flat shape — but their flavor more than makes up for their appearance. Fruit weight can reach up to 400 grams.
The flesh is very sweet, rich, and dense — taste is also a solid 5 out of 5. In the first batch of seeds received, segregation or a seed mix-up was observed — some plants bore red fruits, others pink. Interestingly, although nearly identical in appearance, the red ones were notably sweeter. The current seed line in the collection was acquired from the USA in 2019 and shows stable characteristics.
