GOLD DUST, TAXI ORANGE. An ultra-early, determinate tomato variety with American origins. The plants are compact, reaching only 30-40 cm in height, with strong stems and a neat bushy structure. Known for its high yield due to abundant fruiting not only on the main stem but also on all side shoots. Even with minimal care, this variety consistently delivers a generous harvest. The fruits are round-shaped, uniformly bright orange both inside and out, weighing between 90 and 160 grams.
The flesh is dense and meaty, with a rich sweet flavor complemented by a refreshing tang. The fruits resist cracking even under excessive moisture, making the variety weather-tolerant and dependable. They store well, are easy to transport, and retain their commercial appearance for a long time. This is a versatile tomato suitable for fresh eating and canning alike. Perfect for open-ground cultivation as well as for growing in containers, pots, and balcony planters.
VARIETY HISTORY
Gold Dust was developed at the University of New Hampshire, USA. One of its parent lines was the widely popular orange tomato Taxi, which has been a part of our collection for over 25 years. Initially known as Taxi Orange G416, the new hybrid was bred by researchers Pearce, Crispi, and Miller. It was first mentioned in 1958 in the catalog of the Tomato and Oddities Store by Glecklers Seedmen, located in Metamora, Ohio.
