GRANDPA GARY'S GREEN DWARF. An outstanding mid-season variety selected from the well-known "Grumpy Family" line and named by Susan Oliverson. It quickly gained popularity among lovers of green-when-ripe tomatoes thanks to its combination of a compact yet vigorous plant, large fruits, and an exceptionally rich dessert flavor. The plant is determinate and reaches about 1 m (3.3 ft) in height when grown outdoors. It forms a strong, well-developed bush with thick stems and the characteristic dense, dark-green, rugose regular leaves typical of many Dwarf Tomato Project varieties. The variety is distinguished by vigorous growth, excellent tolerance to changing weather conditions, and reliable production throughout the season.
The fruits are large, round to flattened-round, uniform, and weigh 200-250 g. At full maturity they develop a beautiful green-bronze coloration with warm amber overtones, making them especially attractive among green-when-ripe tomatoes. The skin is smooth, thin, and delicate, yet sufficiently strong to resist cracking and maintain excellent market quality. When sliced, the fruits reveal translucent green, juicy, meaty flesh with very few seeds. The texture is tender, buttery, and exceptionally pleasant, while the high flesh content makes these tomatoes ideal for fresh eating.
FLAVOR
The flavor is rich, smooth, and beautifully balanced. Intense natural sweetness harmonizes perfectly with a light refreshing acidity, creating the classic dessert flavor expected from premium green-when-ripe tomatoes. The flesh is juicy and aromatic, complemented by delicate fruity notes and a long, pleasant aftertaste. It is precisely this remarkable balance of flavor that has earned the variety such high praise among enthusiasts of green tomatoes.
Grandpa Gary's Green Dwarf combines compact growth, ease of cultivation, large attractive fruits, and consistently high productivity. It is an excellent choice for open-ground gardens, small greenhouses, and container growing. One of the finest green-fruited dwarf tomatoes, it is sure to delight gardeners who appreciate unusual colors, buttery flesh, and a perfectly balanced sweet flavor.
