LANTERN. New variety from the collection of Oleksii Ivanovych Kulyk (Sumy region, Ukraine). A mid-season, highly productive bicolor variety with a vigorous indeterminate plant that reaches approximately 2 m in height when grown outdoors. The plant sets fruit well throughout the entire season and continues producing until the onset of cold weather. The trusses are simple, with 5–7 fruits per truss, weighing 45–50 g each. The fruits are rounded and elongated, uniform in size and shape, with firm skin. The main color is bright yellow; when fully ripe, the fruits develop a rich dark-orange blush, while a characteristic pink “cap” appears at the top.
The fruits remain well attached to the plant, are not prone to cracking and retain an attractive appearance for a long time after harvesting. Thanks to their firm texture, they transport well and are suitable for whole-fruit canning. The flesh is juicy and fruity, with a sweet, spicy flavor and a pleasant aroma. The variety can be used for fresh eating, salads and various homemade preserves.
