LUCID GEM, USA. This variety was developed by Brad Gates, whose parent variety is Blue Beauty. I want to highlight that in 2017, at one of the tomato festivals, it deservedly won the award for the sweetest tomato of the year! The bush is mid-early and strong, reaching 1.4 meters in open ground conditions. The stems are thick, with 4 to 6 fruits in each cluster weighing between 300 and 450 grams. The fruits are meaty, juicy, sweet, aromatic, with a fruity flavor.
A very beautiful large-fruited tomato — magnificent orange flattened “patties,” dense and meaty! The bush is medium height, mid-season, and resistant to diseases and sunburn. Like most varieties, during hot weather, there may be difficulties with bud drying and fruit set. But after the temperature drops, the summer heat recedes, and the variety starts fruiting actively again. To get the tastiest fruits, watering should be limited.
The variety does not tolerate excessive moisture, whether from watering or rain. If you water your tomatoes frequently, it might be better to plant this and similar varieties separately and water them less often and less abundantly. The fruits store well; ripe ones can stay on the bushes for a long time, but the fruity taste diminishes when overripe. High-yielding plant! Top marks in every category! Highly recommended.
ABOUT BICOLORS
Best harvest time is when the flesh turns orange-red. The main color is amber-orange, with brown anthocyanin at the base that flows like lava over the upper part of the fruit. The taste is excellent: mild, buttery, meaty, rich and sweet with fruity notes — fragrant and delicious! The flesh is dense but juicy, with small seed chambers containing orange gel and a red core in the center.
Bicolor tomatoes stand out due to the presence of two or more distinct colors on their skin. This gives them a unique appearance and may indicate interesting flavor qualities. They are typically sweet and aromatic. They can be red-yellow, red-orange, red-green, etc. These tomatoes are often used for decorative presentation in dishes.
Large-fruited tomatoes are varieties that produce large, attractive fruits. Their size makes them excellent for salads, sauces, and various culinary uses. They are also suitable for canning and juicing. Varieties such as “Beefsteak,” “Black Krim,” “Pink Brandywine,” and “Big Boy” are good examples of large-fruited tomatoes.
