MARIA AMAZILETEY'S GIANT RED. A tall, mid-season, and exceptionally productive tomato variety from Romania. This is a true family heirloom that has preserved the best qualities of old-fashioned tomatoes. The plants are indeterminate, strong, and reach up to 180 cm in height. The bushes are densely leafy, with sturdy stems that provide excellent protection for the fruits from direct sunlight.
The variety is highly resistant to common tomato diseases and tolerates low temperatures well, making it a reliable choice even in unstable climates. It is low-maintenance and suitable for both open ground and greenhouses. One of its notable traits is the very firm attachment of fruits to the stem — they hold on tightly to the plant.
FRUIT CHARACTERISTICS
The fruits are large, rich red in color, with a smooth and attractive shape, weighing between 200 and 500 grams. The skin is thin and delicate, yet resistant to cracking. The flesh is meaty and juicy, with a rich and complex flavor — a perfect balance of sweetness and light acidity. The aroma evokes the nostalgic scent of old garden tomatoes. When fully ripe, the fruits become even juicier without losing their flavor intensity.
This variety is perfect for fresh eating as well as for making juices, sauces, lecho, and other tomato-based preserves. Thanks to its flavor and resilience, this Romanian heirloom rightfully holds a special place in the collections of experienced gardeners and lovers of traditional tomato varieties. The seeds were sourced directly from Romania, ensuring the preservation of the original varietal traits.
