NEVES AZOREAN RED. Mid-season, indeterminate tomato variety with vigorous, tall plants reaching up to 1.7 meters. It develops strong, healthy vines with a central stem and good foliage cover. Highly resistant to diseases and continues to produce fruit until autumn frost. Fruits are large, meaty, deep red with a glossy, mirror-like shine that makes them especially eye-catching both on the plant and in a harvest basket.
Average fruit weight is between 300 and 600 grams, but some specimens can reach 1 to 1.5 kilograms. These are true beefsteak tomatoes with juicy, aromatic flesh and a rich, complex flavor. VARIETY HISTORY
This is a family heirloom tomato with a rich story. Antonio Neves and his family emigrated from the Azores and settled near Boston, USA. They brought with them their treasured family tomato seeds, which Antonio selected and improved year after year, aiming for larger fruits and a stable flavor profile. The result was "Neves Azorean Red", a variety that gained wide popularity among heirloom tomato enthusiasts.
We searched for this tomato for a long time. We used to grow it many years ago, but the seeds were eventually lost. After many attempts, we managed to find just one true-to-type plant among a mix of off-types. From this one plant, we collected elite seeds, which we are now proud to offer again to rare tomato lovers. It undoubtedly stands out for both its outstanding flavor and its brilliant appearance.
