ORANGE JAZZ (USA). This variety was developed by Fred Hempel. It’s a mid-season tomato variety, with sturdy plants reaching about 1.4 meters in open ground. The stems are thick and productive. Each truss forms 3 to 5 large fruits weighing between 270 and 400 grams. Shape — flattened, with light ribbing near the stem. Color — deep orange with radiant yellow streaks across the base tone. A top hit of the 2017–2018 season!
A new creation by Artisan Seeds, developed in the Bahia-Nicchia Valley, USA. A “sister” variety to the original ‘Jazz’, but with a different appearance. The fruits are large, beefsteak-type, slightly flattened at the poles, with defined ribbing on the top and rounded shoulders. Elegant coloration: orange with yellow stripes. Flesh is juicy, with a pleasant texture. Flavor — sweet, complex, and fruity (the breeders describe it as peach-like).
FRUIT & RIPENING
Fruits are dense, meaty, and at the same time buttery in texture. The flavor is rich and fruity! During seasonal tastings, ratings ranged from 4+ to a solid 5+++, and by season's end — it earned the highest score. One of the favorites from 2017–2019. Bred by Fred Hempel (Artisan Seeds).
First ripening occurred on July 15, 2019. On that same day, one plant was counted: 37 fruits in 10 trusses. Excellent fruit set and consistent productivity. After the first harvest, no more counts were made, but the total yield exceeded 10 kg per plant. Flesh is orange, jelly-like, buttery, and does not leak. Very firm, with intensely fruity flavor!
The variety is vigorous, indeterminate, with regular foliage. Matures in about 75 days, well-adapted to adverse conditions, and resistant to cracking. Tall-growing, with prolonged fruiting and stable yields. Very few seeds. Scored top marks in all trials — especially for flavor!
