PASCAL DE PICARDIE, USA. The variety was created by Dean Slater. It is named after the collector Pascal Antigny from Picardy. A rare, early exotic and simply a beauty. A unique combination of beauty in shape and color, and a truly excellent taste! We searched for this variety for two years all over Europe. Usually, the fruits are mainly red, with half of their surface from the stem covered by inky anthocyanin. The fruits are fleshy and have a rich, sweet flavor.
But very rarely, the bushes may delight you with pink fruits, which are even sweeter than the red ones. Indeterminate, productive, mid-season variety with slim, low-leaf bushes. It sets full clusters. Very beautiful glossy fruits shaped like a plum-heart with a small tip, pinkish-red with anthocyanin black-violet shoulders and sides. Sometimes, fruits may appear with a pink rather than red top — this could happen to you too.
FRUITS AND FLAVOR
Fruit shapes range from elongated cylinders to slightly tapered plums with a pronounced tip. But this is NOT a heart-shape — it’s exactly a plum shape. All forms look great! Its coloring is similar to the Sergeant Peppers variety, but Sergeant Peppers produces larger fruits with a wide, slightly flattened heart shape. The taste qualities are absolutely incredible: dense, buttery, juicy flesh, rich sweet flavor with fruity notes, aromatic, and almost no acidity!
The bush reaches 1.3 meters in open ground, stems are not thick but strong, requiring frequent tying — you wouldn't call it robust. Each cluster averages 5–7 fruits weighing 120–180 grams. Yield is above average. A lifetime favorite! Top marks in every category! One of the tastiest series in our collection! Highly recommended!
