PERSIMMON. It was officially registered only in 2009. The Persimmon tomato is one of the brightest and most popular varieties of Soviet breeding, named after the delicious and juicy fruit it resembles. However, unlike the fruit’s astringent and tart flavor, is surprisingly sweet, tender, and tasty. The tomatoes have a beautiful amber-colored skin and a pleasant fruity aroma.
Their delicate honeyed taste appeals to both adults and children. In addition, the fruits of this variety are distinguished not only by their amber-orange color but also by their tender sweet flesh of the same rich shade, and by a very high content of beneficial substances—lycopene and beta-carotene.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PERSIMMON VARIETY
Mid-season. The plant is strong and vigorous, with dense foliage, reaching a height of 1.2-1.6 meters in open ground. Each cluster produces 3-5 fruits weighing 300-350 g. With such height and strength, the stems need to be tied. The stem is thick and sturdy. The leaves are large, juicy, and densely cover the stem. The fruit color matches the fruit it’s named after: deep orange, round-flattened, very meaty.
Ripe tomatoes are exceptionally sweet with a pleasant fruity aroma. Shape is round, sometimes slightly flattened. Persimmon is a multipurpose variety. The fruits are consumed fresh, used in cooking, for juice, and winter preserves. It boasts high yields. Tasty and crack-resistant.
