PINKY TUSCADERO. A variety developed by Blane Horton, Jacksonville, Mississippi, USA. A relatively new creation which, according to 2015 data, was at the F6 stage and already showed high trait stability. The plant is of a semi-determinate type, with compact yet sturdy bushes up to 1 meter tall. The potato-type foliage is deep green, providing good protection for the fruits from sunscald. It is notable for its high fruit set and consistent, extended fruiting period.
Fruits are large, weighing between 150 and 350 g, round-flat in shape, with more or less pronounced ribbing at the shoulders. Skin and flesh are a rich, deep pink. The flesh is meaty, juicy, multi-loculed, with plenty of gel and seeds. Flavor is balanced, sweet, and pleasantly aromatic. In the cool conditions of the 2019 season, the taste was rated 4 out of 5, but with the return of warmth, it reached a confident “5.”
According to reviews, this variety ranks among the best pink tomatoes ever grown and is suitable for cultivation in various climate zones. It has performed well in warm countries and is expected to do equally well in cooler regions. The original seeds were sourced from Poland, which confirms the rarity and value of this variety.
