PURPLE DRAGON. This variety was developed as part of Mark McMaslin’s project at Frogsleap Agricole aimed at producing a striped cherry tomato rich in anthocyanins. The plant is tall-growing, reaching about 1.8 meters in height in open ground conditions. The bushes are vigorous with regular foliage and an indeterminate growth habit, requiring regular pruning to control and shape the plant. Without timely pruning, the plant can quickly become overgrown and difficult to manage.
Fruits are large for cherry tomatoes, weighing between 40 and 70 grams, slightly oval in shape. The skin features a unique red-purple striped coloration with rich shades of violet and dark purple, especially near the stem. The flesh is pink, firm, juicy, and crunchy. The flavor is harmonious and balanced — sweet with a light pleasant acidity. This variety is highly productive, with fruiting starting mid-season and continuing until frost, providing a stable and abundant harvest.
