RE UMBERTO, ROI HUMBERT, KING HUMBERT. An old Italian variety, a family heirloom named after King Umberto. It boasts a rich history and a long-standing reputation as a reliable and delicious tomato, valued by farmers and gardeners all over the world. Indeterminate, mid-season, and noted for its consistently high yields even under less-than-ideal conditions. In open ground, plants reach about 1.8 meters in height, developing strong stems and dense foliage that protect the fruits from sunscald.
The fruits are deep red with a bright glossy sheen, firm, dense, and meaty, with low juice content. They have an elongated-oval shape, 6-7 cm long, and weigh around 50 g on average. Their harmonious, rich flavor and firm texture make them ideal for whole-fruit canning, pickling, brining, and drying. This variety is also known under other names, but the original heirloom is grown in Italy.
For its excellent taste, attractive appearance, and abundant yield, we rated it the maximum — 5 out of 5. Our collection also includes another variety with a similar name, also of Italian origin and named after the same king. It has a similar fruit shape but is a determinate type, and we obtained its seeds from the USA. Both are worth growing, but this one is a true Italian classic, time-tested and beloved.
