ROSI MARI. An old Romanian tomato variety, distinguished by its fantastic productivity and stable fruiting. It was first introduced in the Seed Savers Yearbook in 2011 by Tatiana Kouchnareva. The fruits are attractive, bright, and glossy, uniform in shape and size. Average fruit weight is 200-300 g, with slight ribbing near the stem that adds to their charm. The flesh is dense yet moderately juicy, rich red in color, with a sweet and well-balanced flavor without excessive acidity.
Plants are vigorous, with thick sturdy stems, a well-developed root system, and potato-leaf foliage. Bushes are strong, resilient, and have a long fruiting period. In open ground, plants reach about 1.5 m in height. The variety is highly valued for its harmony of flavor and meaty texture, making it excellent for fresh eating, salads, juice, and sauces. The tomatoes have a high market quality, rarely crack, and are convenient for both home growing and commercial sales.
From Romanian, “Roși Mari” translates as “Large Tomatoes” or “Big Tomatoes.” This heirloom variety remains relevant and sought after thanks to its versatility, reliability, and outstanding taste qualities. We have maintained and refreshed it in our collection for many years, recognizing its value for both collectors and practical growers. Recommended for outdoor cultivation.
