SABRE (САБЛЯ), USA-Bulgaria. A tomato variety of Bulgarian origin, brought to America in the mid-20th century. Tall-growing, mid-season, and highly productive. The fruits are large, deep dark-pink in color, typical of the finest Bulgarian varieties. They stand out for their excellent sweet flavor, which confidently earns the top score of “5” on the tasting scale. Average fruit weight ranges from 300-600 g, though under favorable conditions individual fruits can grow even larger. Plants are vigorous, with potato-leaf foliage. The variety demonstrates good resistance to common tomato diseases, making it reliable and convenient to grow both in open ground and in GH.
This tomato also has an interesting history. It has been included in our catalog for about ten years. Previously, it was distributed under the name “Sablia” (Sabre), although that name puzzled growers, as it did not reflect the true essence and character of the variety. Later, it was decided to restore the variety under its updated name, taken from old archival collections. This is a truly rare and heirloom tomato, valued not only for its productivity and flavor but also for preserving traditional selection heritage. It is rightfully considered one of the finest representatives of the “old guard” tomatoes — time-tested, reliable, and unique.
