SCOTTSDALE ROAD, USA. Mid-early beautiful new variety with anthocyanin expression. The plant grows 1.5–1.7 meters tall, moderately vigorous, with 3–5 fruits per cluster, each weighing 250–300 g. Yield is above average. Very beautiful pink beefsteak tomato with a slight anthocyanin blush near the stem. When cut, the flesh is equally dense, pink in color – juicy, sweet, with a delicate taste and fragrant aroma.
Very firm both outside and inside. The plant is strong, not too dense, with regular foliage, and is disease-resistant. The fruits are flat-round, neon-pink with blue, almost black shoulders. The tomatoes are meaty, firm, sweet, with spicy notes and a fruity flavor rated 5 out of 5, and they produce abundantly. Quote from breeders Gary and Josephine Kass:
“We found Scottsdale Road in a grocery store last year on Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale, Arizona. It might have another name. We know nothing about its background. What we do know is that it’s not stabilized.”
Top score for taste and beauty!
TOMATOES WITH ANTHOCYANIN
Anthocyanin tomatoes are varieties whose skin – and sometimes flesh – contain anthocyanin pigments, giving the fruit blue, purple, or nearly black shades. Anthocyanins are natural antioxidants that are beneficial for health. These tomatoes are not only decorative but also have unique flavor qualities. Features of anthocyanin tomatoes:
-
Fruit color: The skin can be deep purple, blue, or black, often with transitions to other colors (red, orange, yellow). In some varieties, anthocyanin appears mainly on the sun-exposed parts of the fruit.
-
Health benefits: High anthocyanin content helps boost immunity, reduce inflammation, and protect the body from free radicals. These tomatoes are also rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene, and lycopene, making them valuable for nutrition.
-
Flavor: Anthocyanin tomatoes often have a complex, rich taste – sweet and tangy, with fruity or spicy notes.
-
Decorative appeal: These tomatoes look stunning on the vine and in dishes due to their unusual coloration.
-
Resistance: Many varieties are disease-resistant and tolerate adverse growing conditions well.
