SIEGEL'S DARK STRIPES. Developed by American tomato breeder John Siegel, who is also the creator of the well-known Chocolate Stripes variety. A stunning mid-early bicolor tomato of exceptional beauty. The fruit looks as if its stripes were painted on with a brush. Plants are vigorous, reaching about 0.9 m (3 ft) in open ground. Each truss produces 4–5 fruits weighing 200-250 g (7-9 oz). Yield is medium to above average.
The fruits are flattened-round. Their deep purple skin is covered with numerous green stripes running from the stem to the blossom end. The tomatoes are glossy and highly ornamental. The flesh is bicolored—chocolate-brown with a red heart-shaped center—containing numerous seed cavities. It is aromatic, sweet, and richly flavored. The skin is firm, giving the fruit excellent keeping quality. One of the highest-rated varieties for beauty.
