SOLAR ECLIPSE. A breeding novelty of 2019, created by N. Zhegalin, obtained through an original cross between Sart Roloise and Dirty Curty Striped. The variety is notable for its stable productivity, mid-season ripening, and striking fruit appearance. Plants reach about 1.5 m in height, forming a strong, well-leafed bush that protects the fruits from sunscald while allowing them to ripen evenly. Fruits are flattened-round, very decorative and eye-catching. The base skin color is light yellow, adorned with elegant purple-brown stripes and strokes converging at the stem. Average fruit weight is 200-400 g.
During ripening, and under bright sunlight, the anthocyanin coloration on the “shoulders” becomes more intense, giving the fruit a particularly rich and contrasting look. The flesh is meaty and juicy, with a pronounced sweet taste and pleasant fruity aftertaste. It has an excellent balance of sugars and acids, making the variety versatile: the fruits are delicious fresh, perfect for salads and slicing, as well as for making sauces and pastes. The variety combines decorative appeal, high flavor quality, and reliable yields, making it valuable both for home gardeners and for commercial farms.
