STRIPED PEAR (GRUSHKA SMUGASTA). An early-ripening amateur-bred variety that has become widespread due to its original pear-shaped form and striking striped coloration. Catalogs indicate it as a variety of Ukrainian origin. Over years of cultivation, it has earned a reputation as a reliable, productive, and very decorative tomato. The plants are low-growing, compact, 60-70 cm tall. The bushes are strong, but during the peak fruiting period, they are literally overloaded with fruit, so they sometimes require light support. The fruits are pear-shaped, weighing up to 100 g. The yield is high — in our assessment, "5++ points."
The variety is excellent for open ground, as well as for growing in small greenhouses. The coloration is very beautiful: a deep red background is adorned with yellow-green stripes and patterns, making the tomatoes especially attractive both on the bush and in jars. The bushes consistently produce a large number of beautiful, marketable fruits. This variety has been grown by us for many years. The seed stock was recently renewed from seven-year-old archived seeds, which allowed us to preserve and restore the best varietal qualities.
The fruits are uniform, firm, dense, characterized by good shelf life and resistance to cracking. The flesh is dense, meaty, with a harmonious sweet-sour taste and a pleasant tomato richness. Thanks to its dense structure and convenient size, the variety is considered ideal for whole-fruit canning — the fruits retain their shape, color, and texture in the jar. They are also excellent for fresh consumption and garnishing dishes. A combination of compactness, decorativeness, and high yield, an ideal choice for preserving and bright home canning.
