SUNSHINE BLUE. A spectacular early-maturing cherry tomato from the OSU line featuring striking anthocyanin pigmentation, combining ornamental beauty, high productivity, and excellent sweetness. The unusual combination of a bright red base color with rich chocolate-blue-purple shoulders makes it one of the most attractive anthocyanin cherry tomatoes available. The plant is indeterminate, elegant, with slender yet sturdy stems. In open ground it reaches approximately 1.7 m (5.5 ft) in height, grows vigorously, and produces reliable harvests throughout the season. Each truss carries 6-7 fruits measuring about 3 cm in diameter, while the overall productivity remains consistently high.
The fruits are round, smooth, glossy, and exceptionally attractive. Their main color is rich bright red, while the upper portion develops a dense chocolate-purple anthocyanin blush when fully ripe. This striking contrast creates an outstanding ornamental effect, making the clusters highly decorative both on the vine and after harvest. Fruit size depends on plant training. When fruit clusters are thinned, individual tomatoes may reach 100-110 g, which is exceptionally large for a cherry tomato. When grown in 2-3 stems without fruit thinning, tomatoes typically weigh 50-60 g, remaining uniform, beautiful, and abundant.
FLAVOR
The fruits stay firmly attached to the stems and can be harvested as whole trusses, making picking easier while adding remarkable visual appeal. Thanks to their firm texture, they transport well and remain fresh for an extended period without losing either flavor or market quality. The flavor is classic tomato, beautifully balanced, with pronounced natural sweetness complemented by a light refreshing acidity that enhances its richness. Thanks to its excellent sugar-acid balance, the fruits are equally delicious eaten fresh from the vine, in salads, vegetable platters, festive dishes, or for whole-fruit preserving.
The flesh is juicy, tender, and aromatic. Combines early maturity, excellent productivity, spectacular anthocyanin coloration, and outstanding flavor. Its unusually large cherry-sized fruits, the possibility of harvesting entire trusses, and its extraordinary ornamental appearance make it one of the finest representatives of its class. Without question, it is one of the leaders in fruit beauty and will become a true highlight of any tomato collection.
