TENNESSEE SURPRISE. An indeterminate, mid-season, and highly productive tomato variety that reaches about 1.5 meters in height when grown outdoors. In the USA, it is known as a large-fruited variety, with official descriptions mentioning fruits weighing up to 700 g. However, under our growing conditions, the fruits turned out to be about half that size, averaging 250-450 g. It is worth noting that 2017 was extremely unfavorable for giant tomato varieties, which resulted in low yields.
The 2023 harvest confirmed the consistently medium fruit size, indicating good adaptation of this variety to our climate. The plants were grown without irrigation, and the summer was very dry — not a single rainfall occurred. Despite this, the variety demonstrated remarkable resilience and the ability to set full-size fruits. The tomatoes are very beautiful, with a delicate pink-yellow-orange coloration that creates a warm bicolor effect. In the garden, they immediately catch the eye with their soft elegance.
The fruits are round and slightly flattened, meaty, multi-chambered, with a firm yet juicy texture. Their flavor is outstanding — rich, well-balanced, sweet, with a light fruity note. The taste has rightfully been rated 5+ points. These tomatoes are excellent for fresh eating, salads, as well as for making thick, aromatic juice or sauces. The variety can be considered decorative-gastronomic: the fruits impress not only with their looks but also with their exquisite taste.
