TIGRETTE CHERRY YELLOW. Is a mid-late, compact, and exceptionally productive tomato variety that pleasantly surprises with its endurance and decorative appeal. The plants are of the standard type, compact and sturdy, remaining upright even under very heavy fruit load and requiring no pruning at all, which makes the variety easy and convenient to grow. The foliage is unusual, yellow-green with a light lettuce shade, giving the plants a neat and attractive appearance throughout the entire season.
The tomato variety “Tigrette Cherry Red” originates from Ukraine, as it was bred by Ukrainian breeder Ruslan Dukhov through crossing and selection of new forms, including the yellow “Tigrette.” It is a reliable, undemanding, and highly ornamental variety suitable for open ground and greenhouse cultivation. An exceptionally large number of fruits is formed — far more than expected considering the compact size of the plants. At the same time, not a single bush collapses under the weight of the harvest, demonstrating excellent strength and stability.
VARIETY CHARACTERISTICS
The tomatoes are striking plum-shaped cherry fruits of a rich red color with expressive golden stripes. They have a very attractive decorative appearance and are perfectly suited both for fresh consumption and for whole-fruit preserving. The flesh is dense, meaty, and has excellent keeping quality. The fruits can remain on the plants for a long time — right up to frost — without losing flavor, firmness, or marketable appearance, which is especially valuable for mid-late varieties.
The quality of the fruits deserves special attention: they are exceptionally firm, do not crack, and are not prone to rotting even under unfavorable conditions. About ten years ago, a segregation of traits was observed in this variety, resulting in plants with yellow-orange fruits. It can be assumed that such segregation may occur again in the future, adding breeding interest and an element of surprise during cultivation. This variety combines high productivity, strong plant structure, and excellent fruit quality even at the end of the season.
