WESSEL'S PURPLE PRIDE, USA. Tall-growing, mid-season, and fantastically productive variety. Developed from a cross between 'Green Sausage' and 'Cherokee Purple'. The plant structure is fairly elegant, so it's best to plant them in the brightest location and provide good support during growth and fruit ripening. The fruits are dark red, elongated plum-shaped with a pointed tip — very attractive in both color and shape. The flesh is pink, juicy, tender, buttery, sweet, extremely flavorful — a true benchmark in taste — with very few seeds. In southern regions or during hot summers, some shading from the sun might be needed.
Fruits ripening under intense sunlight may fade slightly and turn whitish, but in my opinion, this does not affect the flavor. Even after three to four days of refrigeration, the ripe fruits retain their excellent flavor. This tomato must be grown for the taste alone. A true delight! The flavor is outstanding: fruity, meaty, juicy, very sweet, and it simply melts in the mouth. The walls are thick, the seed content is very low — it's almost all flesh inside. Top marks for taste!
