ALYA. An early Bulgarian tomato variety known for its high productivity and ease of cultivation. The plants are tall, reaching approximately 1.8 metres in height, so they require support and tying. The fruits ripen relatively early, allowing a harvest at the beginning of the season. The tomatoes are small and neatly plum-shaped. Each fruit weighs around 15–20 g.
The tomatoes have firm skins that make them resistant to cracking. Even after ripening, the fruits can remain on the plants for a long time without losing their attractive appearance. This characteristic allows growers to wait until most of the tomatoes have ripened and harvest them all at once. The small fruits look neat and are ideal for whole-fruit preserves. They are easy to pick and convenient for homemade canning.
The tomatoes have a pleasant, sweet, and well-balanced flavour. They are suitable for fresh consumption, adding to salads, and preparing various dishes. The variety is particularly well suited to canning because the firm skins help the fruits retain their shape in jars. Their small size makes them ideal for pickling and preserving whole. With its combination of early maturity, excellent flavour, and practicality for preserving, this variety is an excellent choice for a home garden.
